VIVEK HIGH SCHOOL CHANDIGARH TEAM AADIL BEDI AND ADILBIR SINGH WON ALL INDIA INTER-SCHOOL GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
At times teammates going all out to beat others and at times competing among themselves for the top slots, life is pretty interesting for the young golfing brigade of Chandigarh. Light showers and thunderstorm played the perfect host for an exciting finish of 4th Albatross All India Inter School golf championship held on 27-28 August at ITC Classics Gurgaon. The team of two namesakes, Aadil Bedi (13) class 8th and Adilbir Singh (15) class 10th of Vivek High School Sector 38, Chandigarh held their nerves tight at closing holes to beat St. John High school’s team, again of Chandigarh, comprising of Karandeep Kochar (15) and Rohan Kathuria (16) and won the trophy for Category A-B (13-17 years) by 2 strokes.The two day team score of Vivek high School was 304 and that of St. John High School was 306.
Modern High School Barakhamba Road New Delhi has to be satisfied with 3rd place with the score of 309. Inspite of having the home course advantage, Modern School Barakhamba Road Delhi team comprising Azad Sandhu and Arjun Raj Bahadur played superb golf shots and scored 150 after close of day1. St. John High School was placed at second position with score of 154 Whereas Vivek high school team was at poor 3rd position with score 157 as weather was sultry and high speed greens played truant. Aadil Bedi and Adilbir scored 78 and 79 respectively with 2 birdies each. On the start of 2nd day, trailing by 7 strokes, the windy overcast weather with mild thunderstorm foretold that today was a different day. Both players displayed fine golf shots and held their nerves tight till last putt. Aadil Bedi fired 4 birdies and score 73 whereas
Adilbir scored 74 with 2 birdies. The combined score of 304 surprised many. and resulted in Aadil Bedi finishing 2nd runner up in B category individually. Thus, a 2 stroke team win over St John high School happened. Karandeep played steady game 75, 71 which helped him to win individually in A category whereas his partner Rohan Kathuria played 79,81 with total score 306. In individual Girls category C, Vasundara Thiara of Vivek High School, registered easy victory with score of 75, 83 (158). She could not field her team in C-D category due to non availability of other student from school. Last year a pair of Vasundhara Thiara and Aadil Bedi brought winning trophy for their school in C-D category. Hunar Mittal of Panchkula finished runner up with 2 day score of 88,89 (177) in Category D girls. Manjot Singh of Category D finished runner up too with score of 81,83 (164). Tricity Golf Society, acknowledged and applauded the effort of young golfers and is planning to felicitate the winners at a function to be held on 1st November where Ace golfer Mr. Gaganjeet Bhullar will be the Chief Guest. Society is further in the process of raising funds and starting scholarship scheme for caddy players as well as IGU meritorious players apart from hosting national level match on Ryder cup format of ” Chandigarh Vs Rest of India”.
